Perth, opened in 1908, must be one of the most picturesque National Hunt courses in the UK. Located in rolling parkland adjoining historic Scone Palace, it is an undulating right-handed circuit which stages racing between April and September. The April Festival is always well attended and attracts some star performers from south of the border while the Perth Gold Cup takes place in June.
Access is via Junction 11 of the M90 on the A93 Blairgowrie road. Perth station is approximately four miles from the entrance to the track. A bus service operates from Mill Street in the city centre on racedays.
It often pays to race up with the pace at Perth as the leaders tend to quicken on the turn for home and those behind can encounter traffic problems.
Always take note of anything Donald McCain and Tim Vaughan enter here. Nigel Twiston-Davies’ hurdlers do especially well at the April Festival and Gordon Elliott and Stuart Crawford’s bumper horses are usually thereabouts on the Scottish track.
