Situated at Brampton in Cambridgeshire on the border of East Anglia and the Midlands, Jockey Club-owned Huntingdon racecourse is off Junction 22 of the A14 and within five minutes of the A1. The nearest mainline station is in Huntingdon, approximately two-and-a-half miles from the course. A complimentary bus service operates for racegoers.
There are jump racing fixtures year-round except for a summer break in June and July with the feature being the Grade 2 Peterborough Chase over 2m4f in December. The market is usually worth following in this as winning outsiders are rare. Established form in top-class company is another good pointer. The Chatteris Fen Hurdle and Sidney Banks Memorial Hurdle in the spring were once recognised Cheltenham trials but have eased in importance in recent years.
Huntingdon is a flat relatively tight, right-handed course and the hurdles course often suits converts from the Flat. The fences are not difficult and can be taken at speed without interrupting rhythm.
Barry Leavy and Lawney Hill’s runners are well worth watching if attracting market support and Richard Newland’s hurdlers have started to have an impact in the last few years.
